Steve served as head coach of the men’s basketball program from 1979-85. He guided the Argos to a 120-54 (.690) record, six consecutive winning seasons, five playoff appearances and three Frontier Conference titles. He was twice named the Frontier Conference Coach of the Year, and was named the District 12 Coach of the Year in 1982. He also served as athletic director and taught physical education. During his tenure the men’s basketball team had a graduation rate of 88 percent.
Following his time at UGF, Steve coached at the NCAA Division I level at Eastern Washington and Loyola Marymount. Following that he coached the Great Falls Explorers for one season in the CBA.
A native of Laramie, Wyo., Steve graduated from Chadron (Neb.) State in 1971. He earned a master’s in education from Nebraska-Omaha in 1973 and previously worked as the athletic director at West Los Angeles College.
